Skool Onboarding Checklist

A step-by-step checklist for welcoming new Skool community members and guiding them from “just joined” to “actively engaged” within their first week.

Why Onboarding Matters

Most Skool community churn happens in the first 7 days. Members who do not engage within their first 48 hours are significantly less likely to stick around. A structured onboarding process reduces early churn and increases lifetime value.

The Onboarding Checklist

Immediately After Joining (Day 0)

Send a welcome DM introducing yourself and the community
Point them to the “Start Here” post or classroom module
Tag them in the welcome thread or create a welcome post for them
Ask one specific question to prompt a reply (e.g., “What is your biggest challenge with X right now?”)

Day 1

Check if they have introduced themselves
If not, send a gentle nudge: “Hey, would love to hear a quick intro from you in the community!”
Like/comment on their intro if posted
Ensure they have access to all relevant resources

Day 3

Send a check-in DM: “How are you finding things so far? Anything I can help with?”
Point them to a specific piece of content relevant to their stated goal
Verify they have completed the first classroom module (if applicable)

Day 5

If still inactive: send a value-first DM with a tip, resource, or link to a popular post
If active: acknowledge their contributions publicly

Day 7

Send a “first week wrap-up” DM
Ask for feedback: “Anything you wish the community had more of?”
Invite them to participate in an upcoming event or challenge

Welcome DM (Day 0)

2. Drop an intro post so the community can get to know you

Check-in DM (Day 3)

Hey [Name], just checking in — how are you finding the community so far?

Is there anything specific you are looking for help with? Happy to point you in the right direction.

Nudge DM (Day 7)

Hey [Name]! Just wanted to follow up — we have [specific event/content] coming up this week and I think you would get a lot out of it.

Let me know if there is anything I can do to help you get more value from the group!
